Gallup Polls - Here's how they do it: They call one thousand people randomly and ask all of them the same set of questions. Then they publish the results. That's it. That's a Gallup poll. Decide for yourself if everyone is lying (when the majority of the people pick the answers you don't like) or if the Voice of the American People is finally being heard (when they give the answers you like).

The Bulwer-Lytton Fiction Contest - "It was a dark and stormy night" writer Edward George Bulwer-Lytton is honored with this contest of deliberately bad first lines to imaginary novels.
